More than 200 Children have a try at the Cambridge Rugby Club
8th November 1999 The Cambridge Rugby Club 'have a try' days, sponsored by the Cambridge Research Park, successfully attracted over 200 children to the event held at Granchester Road rugby ground, allowing the children to try the sport for the first time. The introductory rugby sessions, run over two weekends in October, brought together an array of children between the ages of 6 and 18, fired up by the Rugby World Cup. All the children were given two hours of training by members of the rugby club and were also provided with a complementary Cambridge Research Park T-shirt and baseball cap. Rod Bishop, president of the Cambridge Rugby Club said, "The 'Have a try' days have been more popular than we had ever imagined, it was great to see the children playing a game that we at the CRUFC have so much passion for. However, this event could not have gone ahead without the backing of the Cambridge Research Park, to whom we are extremely grateful" Nic Rumsey, director of Suon (Cambridge) Ltd, the developers for the Cambridge Research Park said, " We are extremely happy to fund such a worthwhile and well turned out event."
