Cambridge Developer Calls for Relaxation of Building Density Restriction on Business
27th August 1999 Nic Rumsey, director of Suon Cambridge, the developer of the 600,000 sq ft Cambridge Research Park, this week called for a relaxation of density restrictions on existing sites around Cambridge in the wake of the Government's decision on Wellcome's scheme in Hixton. "If the Government and local council want to reduce development on greenfield sites around Cambridge then they should relax planning densities on existing schemes to create a level playing field between existing committed developments," said Rumsey. " The Cambourne development, for instance, has a density restriction of 18,000 sq ft, whilst the Cambridge Research Park, which is situated in a similar rural position, has consent for only 12,000 sq ft. "We will be seeking planning consent shortly to expand the Cambridge Research Park to cater for the strong demand from research and development parks in the region."
