Suon Seeks Detailed Planning Consent for
4th March 1999 Suon Cambridge, the developer of the Cambridge Research Park, has submitted a detailed planning application to South Cambridgeshire District Council for a 63,300 sq ft office and R&D; building to be occupied by Cambridge Cable, one of the city's leading high-tech companies. Cambridge Cable exchanged contracts recently to lease the building at a rent of 16.36 per sq ft. It is taking the 7-acre, Plot 9000 site, on a 15 year lease with five yearly rent reviews and has agreed a three month rent free period. The detailed planning application is for a three-storey building designed by Cambridge-based architects Frank Shaw Associates. The Cambridge Research Park has outline planning consent already for 600,000 sq ft. The company is moving from the Cambridge Science Park and three other locations in Cambridge to the Research Park. Nic Rumsey, of Suon Cambridge Ltd, said, "Cambridge Cable's decision to move to our scheme firmly consolidates the park as one of the premier research and development locations in the city. "We have designed a three-storey building which reflects the quality of architecture which will integrate well into the park where natural vegetation and lakeside settings are a key feature." "We are attracting considerable interest from Cambridge occupiers because we can offer them what they don't have currently - a congestion free environment and room for expansion," he added. The pre-letting to Cambridge Cable vindicates Suon's decision to go-ahead and obtain detailed planning consent for the second phase of the Research Park which was granted in January and will provide the 40,680.7 sq metre (437,838 sq ft) outstanding balance of the scheme. A key feature of the park will be the additional services it provides for occupiers. Last year Suon signed an agreement with the Four Pillars Hotels Group to build a four-star 120-bed hotel, conference and leisure centre at the park. Suon Cambridge Ltd, is a joint venture between Carisbrooke Investments Ltd and Suon Ltd. The letting agents for the Cambridge Research Park are Rumsey & Partners, FPD Savills and Gerald Eve
