Cambridge Research Park Wins Detailed Planning Consent on Second Phase
14 January 2026 Suon Cambridge Ltd, a joint venture between Carisbrooke Investment Ltd and Suon, has won detailed planning consent from South Cambridgeshire District Council for the 23.7 hectare (57 acres) second phase of the 100m Cambridge Research Park. The Phase Two consent will open up the whole park for major development providing approximately 14.5 hectares (36 acres) of research and development/office buildings totalling 40,680.7 sq m (437,838 sq ft). "We intend to implement the consent rapidly so that we can incorporate the infra-structure needed to accommodate the evident demand for this project." "We hope to announce further deals on the 15,050 sq metre (162,000 sq ft) Phase One soon and are delighted to be able to proceed quickly with Phase Two, continuing the momentum of the development," says Neil Young of Suon Cambridge. A 1858 sq metre (20,000sq ft) unit has already been pre-let to Diomed on phase one. Suon recently received detailed planning consent for a two-storey headquarters building on phase one totalling almost 32,000 sq ft. Known as Building 1000, the 2,943.8 sq m (31,687 sq ft) net building, which may be built speculatively, could be built for an occupier within 9 months. The application also included internal distributor roads and services, and related land reclamation The size of the Research Park means that additional expansion land can be allocated to an occupier for a fixed period. This allows for the common Cambridge experience of rapid business growth by occupiers and the need for additional space. Suon has also given a commitment that any company which takes space at the Research Park and subsequently requires larger accommodation will be released from its initial lease as long as the new building is also on the Research Park. The Cambridge Research Park is one of the sponsors and has a stand at Enterprise '99, the small business exhibition organised by the Cambridge Enterprise Agency. This year's exhibition is being held at the Moller Centre (owned by Churchill College) on Wednesday 24 February between 11am and 5pm. Suon Cambridge Ltd was represented by development consultants and joint agents Rumsey & Partners, Gerald Eve and FPDSavills.
