The Cambridge Research Park Wins Detail plannning consent for Speculative Unit
6 August 2025 Suon Cambridge Ltd, a joint venture between Suon and Carisbrooke Investments Ltd, has received detailed planning consent for a two-storey headquarters building totalling almost 32,000 sq ft at its 100 million Cambridge Research Park. The 2,943.8 sq m (31,687 sq ft) net building, which may be built speculatively, could be built for an occupier within 10 months. It will be positioned prominently at the entrance to the site and is capable of a range of uses including research and development, laboratory space and offices. It will benefit from generous parking provision allowing almost 180 parking spaces. Nic Rumsey, director of Suon, says, "Tight planning controls around Cambridge and the seemingly insatiable demand for research and development space in Silicon Fen, has encouraged us to seek planning consent for this unit which we may build speculatively. "At the moment, any company wanting good quality space has to wait anything up to 18 months for something to be built, we want to be able to provide space for those companies when it is needed, " he added. Building 1000, as it is known, could be available for occupation in May 1999 The unit has been designed by Cambridge-based architects Frank Shaw Associates. It will be constructed with high quality brick elevations incorporating curtain walling and easily accessible external service risers. The first floor will be fully-fitted out by Suon to include carpeting, full access raised floors, suspended ceilings, incorporating recessed category two lighting and gas-fired central heating. The reception area will be double-height and will be located in a centralised position to allow for easy subdivision into floors and/or wings. It will include lifts, showers and WCs. The ground floors will have a clear height of 3.3 metres to allow for installation of research and development, production or office fit-out and all areas are designed to be naturally ventilated but capable of being cooled or air-conditioned if necessary Agents on the scheme are Rumsey & Partners, Gerald Eve and FPDSavills' Cambridge office.
