Cambridge Research Park Receives Outline Planning Consent for First Phase
April 1998 The Cambridge Research Park, under development by Suon Cambridge Ltd, has obtained reserved matters planning approval to create the first phase of serviced land and new lakes on the development. The works will include a new roundabout on the A10, a dual carriageway entrance road and first internal roundabout. This opens up 17 acres of land on which up to 15,050 sq m (162,000 sq ft) can be built on subject to detailed consent. Having obtained this consent and concluded terms with its first occupier Diomed, Suon has submitted a detailed plan for Diomed's building and also a phase of speculatively built units. These will be 2 two-storey buildings comprising one unit of 1,801 sq m (19,385 sq ft) and one of 2,707 sq m (29,145 sq ft. These buildings are planned to be completed and available for occupation in early 1999. The first phase of units, to be known as Buildings 1000 and 1050, have been specifically designed to accommodate the needs of the area's R&D; based organisations. Flexibility in use has been the designer's aim. Ducting and drainage are incorporate to allow laboratory fit-out at ground and/or first floor level. Although they are naturally ventilated the units incorporate sufficient floor and ceiling voids, and associated plant room areas, to allow for the easy installation of air-conditioning plant. Each of the two-storey units can be sub-divided if necessary to offer a range of accommodation from 337 sq m (3,625 sq ft) up to a maximum of 2,707 sq m (29,145 sq ft).
